We selected Regent Remodeling. Ron represented his new company well, making sure all our questions were addressed. He spent a considerable amount of time going over the details via phone, email, and even in person on more than one occasion.
Now, I don't like to think of myself as a high maintenance client, however we may have been a bit more 'thorough' than most. Ron seemed to take all this in stride and stuck with us when other companies may have decided to focus their time elsewhere (thanks Ron).
Oh, and that little matter regarding price. Reasonable. Regent Remodeling certainly wasn't the lowest bid we recieved, but they did work with us.
This is a huge decision for us, and at the present it can feel like a gamble. Think about it.. Significant funding, a third of which is handed over before one nail goes in, with little more than references and online photos of their work to go on. Does it make me nervous? You bet. Time will tell if it all pays off in the end.

And so it begins....
It wasn't long after we moved into our new home that we realized we needed more room to expand. The only practical way to do that would be to finish our basement. Nothing there right now but the typical mechanicals.. furnace, a/c, pipes, and wall to wall concrete. We knew it would be a lot of work.
Like most folks, we have a hectic life with little time to devote to a major remodeling project. That's when the search began. The search to find the perfect contractor.. great craftmanship, quality of work, honesty, reasonable prices, actually knows what he/she is doing, an expert in the field with all the right accreditations. We weren't asking for too much right??
We did what was recommended. Several contractors gave us a bid and they ran the spectrum in terms of offerings and skillset. We had the low bids, the high bids, bids that included plans, bids that didn't (a couple even refused providing plans in advance). To the amateur they all seemed to know what they were talking about, a couple even had great enthusiasm and vision for the space. However there was only one that we really felt cared, and took all our requests into consideration. Only thing left was... the price.
To be continued....
